Half and Full Day Canyon Lands Jeep Tours

Here in the canyon lands, the real “opening of the West” occurred in the 1950’s. Access to the backcountry took a tremendous leap with the availability of war surplus bulldozers and jeeps, coupled with the uranium prospecting boom. Trails that had previously been known to only a handful of cowboys and explorers were suddenly open to motorized travel.

Today these same trails provide the adventuresome with access to remote sections of the landscape. For those who have the time and the temperament to get away from the crowds, seldom experienced journeys await.

Interested in canyon and scenery or exploring? Want to pursue your interest in hiking, rock art, photography, geology, archeology, paleontology or history? Join us on a Canyon Lands jeep tour!

Canyon Lands Rock Art Tours

The Colorado Plateau is known worldwide for pre-Historic Rock Art. The cliffs and canyons of the region serve as a spectacular backdrop for the myriad  pictographs and petroglyphs found here.

Hondoo has long guided Utah rock art excursions to remote and seldom visited locations. Trips of varying length and and group size may be arranged. We are fascinated by these unique Fremont and Barrier Canyon style  sites and would be delighted to facilitate your discovery of them. Trips may depart from our Torrey headquarters or another area city if visiting Range Creek.

Visitors often come to the canyon expecting an experience similar to a Mesa Verde visit and leave surprised by the subtlety of Fremont archaeology.  Ruins are very discrete, often no more than a partial circle of stone or a barely discernible color change in the soil.  Even the archaeologist’s working in the canyon continue to be surprised by new sites in unexpected areas.  For additional photos in Range creek please visit Natural History Museum Of Utah.

Utah Photo Tours by Jeep in the Canyon Lands

It goes without saying that the canyon country of the Colorado Plateau is paradise for landscape and wildlife photographers. Hondoo has worked with numerous professional photographers including Bob Krist, Scott Smith and Kerrick James. We’ve provided logistical support on backcountry photo shoots for organizations as diverse as PBS’s “Time Team America”, National Geographic Society, Muench Photography, Saks Fifth Avenue, Arizona Highways Magazine and ESPN Television, among others.

All of Hondoo’s photography trips provide participants with excellent photographic opportunities. However, for the early morning and late afternoon sun required by serious hobby and professional photographers, we’ve designed several vehicle tours which take advantage of the low sun angle and the landscape definition which shadows provide.

We’ll design your Utah photo trip with your interests in mind. Let us know what you are passionate about and how much walking we should include.

Duration:
Generally speaking each morning or afternoon session will last about 4 to 5 hours.
On the full day tour when logistics allow, we’ll return to town for siesta between sessions. All tours depart as prearranged. Drinks with lunch and/or snacks provided on full day tours.

Multi-day Utah Jeep Tours

West of the Colorado River, from the Paria River in the south to the Price River in the north, is a big, big country and Hondoo is licensed to operate backcountry vehicle tours in most of it. To see even a small portion of this wild landscape can require more than one day.

Furthermore, volumes have been written about the scenic features, as well as the social and natural history, of this remote and rugged area. But the canyon country needs to be seen for its immensity and beauty to truly appreciate and understand the spirituality of this unique land. Let us help you experience it from the comfort of a 4X4 vehicle with cold drinks and a knowledgeable guide.

You may choose to camp each night in the wilderness, or you may return to a less primitive setting at an inn located in the nearest small town. For prices and details, see custom trips.
