Our Guests Love the Experience
Don’t take our word for it, see what our past guests have to say about their time with Hondoo.
“It is always an adventure to join Pat on her horse trips, especially in the gorgeous canyons of the San Rafael Swell. Her horses are in great shape and spirited as well. They are enthusiastic to get going, just like I was, each and every day, to see what lies ahead. We were particularly blessed to see several herds of wild horses on our trip, which looked healthy and inquisitive. We ate beautifully prepared food, as always. And were provided excellent tents and plenty of gear to stay warm. This was my fourth trip, and I recommend it to anyone who wants to be out in fantastic country on a horse every day, and be away from the rest of the world for a mental cleansing, which is definitely is.”
“What a wonderful opportunity to be guided into such beautiful country but such experienced guides. Our campsite was beautiful, walled by colored mesas and the bottomlands were lined with fall color along the way. Amazing sunrise, stars and wild horse viewings. Cannot say enough wonderful things about this trip!”
“Wonderful experience, riding with Pat and her wranglers. The horses were so well behaved and responsive that all fears on some of the steeper areas were quickly dismissed. Trust your horse, they know where to put their feet. There is not enough room to tell about the wonderful scenery that we experienced and every day way different. My favorite memory is riding along the edge of a canyon wall and seeing the edge get narrower. I began to wonder if we would run out of edge and if so, how we would get around the canyon. We did run out of edge and ended up going down the side of the canyon to the bottom. That as a fantastic experience as we turned the horses loose and helped them find their way down the red sand canyon walls.
The overnight camp was located on a high plateau with wonderful views all around. Roger, the camp jack knew how to make a breakfast to fill even the pickiest of eaters. And the dinners, amazing. Still, nothing compares to the cool, clear nights with all the stars in attendance. This is just something that is not seen anywhere where there are lights to disturb the darkness. Definitely a must do for horseback vacation lovers.”
“We did the 5 day camping and riding trip in the San Rafael Swell. Pat is a tremendous horse woman and guide. Her experience and knowledge of this region know no bounds and you feel great in her hands for this kind of adventure. Her horses are sure-footed beings with lovely temperaments, who handle the rugged terrain and 5-6 hour rides with ease. Camp is organized and comfortable – the cot/foam/therma-rest combo is like a mattress – tents are great and the food, prepared by Beth was outstanding. Beth’s stories, humor and fun nature was a great addition. Some of the other guests on our trip were cattle ranchers with huge, open hearts and tons of wisdom to share, adding to a truly memorable experience in the outback.”
“Pat is unbelievable. Her knowledge and skill in what is an incredibly remote area are unparalleled I am sure. She is also one of the kindest people I’ve ever met. She takes absolutely brilliant care of her horses and her guests. If you have experience riding and are comfortable on trails, I highly recommend a trip with her.”
“We spent a delightful day with Brian in the Cathedral Valley area of Capital Reef. Brian was a most pleasant and informative guide who added greatly to the outstanding vistas of the northern desert and spectacular geologic features not easily accessible to the average visitor of Capital Reef.”
“The Inn to Inn trip was all that I would have hoped it to be and more. From the “meet and greet” meeting on Sunday night, right thru the end of the last ride on Friday. Pat (one of the owners) and Topher, our wrangler, were always friendly and professional. Their concern was the comfort and the safety of both their guests and their horses. The horses were in top notch shape, the tack was comfortable and well fitting, and the Inns we stayed in were first rate. The food was plentiful and very good too. I enjoyed this trip so much that I have already signed up to do it again next Spring. I highly recommend this trip to anyone who wants to ride off the beaten path.”
“the horses were friendly and well trained. the owner Pat as well as the trail hand were wonderful. they were knowledgeable of the trails and always took us someplace different. Pat was patient and wanted the best experience for everyone. the schoolhouse inn was wonderful, the food was great, and the area had shops to visit and was in a good location. the hotel in boulder was not as good, no coffee or anything available on site, and the owners were less than friendly. the facility was old and outdated. cleanliness sub standard.
I would recommend hondoo river trails for anyone who truly loves horses, and wants an adventure. Pat will be sure to accommodate your needs. I plan on a second trip there.”
“My best trail ride ever !
Pat is an awesome horse-woman and guide, who loves to share her knowledge of the region.
I did a tour in Capitol Reef. Each riding day was totally different from the other and was an opportunity to discover new sceneries, and experience various terrains.
If you are ready to sleep outdoors, definitely go for the camping ride. The show is 24/7 : magnificent landscapes during the day, dinner by the campfire and beautiful sky at night. And the camp is comfy !
Well trained, well kept, reliable and sure-footed willing horses.
So a big thank-you again to Pat, and to Marcia (the cook, who pampered us with such great food) for this fantastic week.
I would love to be able to come back for another ride…”
“Wonderful. Amazing scenery, good horses, great camp facilities and awesome food. This was a ride that will be long remembered.”
