Daily Vehicle Tours:

Here in the canyonlands, the real "opening of the West" occurred in the 1950's. Access to the backcountry took a tremendous leap with the availability of war surplus bull-dozers and jeeps, coupled with the uranium prospecting boom. Trails that had previously been known to only a handful of cowboys and explorers were suddenly open to motorized travel.

Capitol Reef Furita School

Today these same trails provide the adventuresome with access to remote sections of the landscape. For those who have the time and the temperament to get away from the crowds, seldom experienced journeys await.

Interested in canyonland scenery or exploring? Want to pursue your interest in hiking, rockart, photography, geology, archeology, paleontology or history? Then join us on a vehicle tour.

All daily vehicle tours require a two person minimum charge. The prices of daily tours (except half day tours--$90/person tours) include lunch. Tours depart from your motel or Hondoo headquarters, and normally depart at 9:00am unless otherwise arranged.

Multi-day Vehicle Tours:

West of the Colorado River, from the Paria River in the south to the Price River in the north, is a big, big country and Hondoo is licensed to operate backcountry vehicle tours in most of it. To see even a small portion of this wild landscape can require more than one day.

Furthermore, volumes have been written about the scenic features, as well as the social and natural history, of this remote and rugged area. But the canyon country needs to be seen for its immensity and beauty to truly appreciate and understand the spirituality of this unique land. Let us help you experience it from the comfort of a 4X4 vehicle with cold drinks and a knowledgeable guide.

You may choose to camp each night in the wilderness, or you may return to a less primitive setting at an inn located in the nearest small town. For prices and details, see custom trips.
