Indian Gulch Bridge

Day Hikes:
At our headquarters in Torrey, Utah, Hondoo is surrounded for scores of miles by rugged wilderness which often seems impenetrable. However, for those who know where to go there exist intricate trails established by Indians, explorers, stockmen, outlaws and outfitters.

Some trails have been formally improved by land managers; many have not. For those interested, Hondoo will guide hikes to Capitol Reef National Park, Grand Staircase & Escalante Canyons National Monument, San Rafael Swell Wilderness, or other landforms in the area.

All day hikes require a three person minimum charge. The price of day hikes includes guide and lunch; they depart as arranged. When arranging your trip, inquire with Hondoo about specific trails, length and difficulty of the trails for the area you're interested in exploring. You may choose a special emphasis hike which feature slot canyons, slickrock mountains, natural wonders, or rock art panels.

Home Sweet Home
Multi-day Hikes
The canyon country offers unparalleled hiking destinations. With dynamic elevation changes in the southern-Utah landscape, hikers may visit climate and vegetation zones ranging from upper-Sonoran to Alpine. You may hike pristine sandstone mountains, pinyon-juniper forests punctured by spires and buttes, or redrock canyons which carve aspen and spruce timbered plateaus.

For two decades Hondoo offered a full schedule of hiking with packstock trips in remote sections of the canyonlands. But because of the popularity of our trailrides, the problems associated with hiking in summer's heat, and the difficulty in filling our hiking trips, we dropped our schedule of multi-day hikes to concentrate on our rides and custom trips. Now, we invite hikers to charter a custom trip or join a scheduled trailride.

Cathedral Valley Overlook
Hikers and campers are always welcome on our trailrides which feature a basecamp located deep in the backcountry. These backcountry basecamps are accessible only by 4X4 vehicle and make excellent jumping off points to explore on foot with a guide.

If you elect to join a scheduled trailride, you'll either ride with the cook, guide and non-riding guests by vehicle to and from camp, or, you'll ride a horse on the first and last day to and from camp. If you want to reserve a spot on a trailride and spend one or more days hiking, please let us know in advance.

On multi-day hiking only trips, you may choose from four camp options: 1) Basecamp with 4X4 support; 2) Basecamp with livestock support; 3) Moving camp with 4X4 vehicle or, 4) Moving camp with pack stock.

For hiking only trip prices, see custom trips.
